First post in a year...

Wow, I can't believe its been a year since I've posted anything! A lot has happened in a year. Josh and I are both working, we've moved into our own place (with a fireplace even!) and even have health insurance again! We have been very, very blessed.
We both went to the dentist last week! I know, getting excited over going to the dentist is odd but this is the first time in 12 years that I've had dental insurance and I was sadly excited to get my teeth cleaned and looked after!
We haven't explored as much this summer but we have made 2 trips to the beach and gone to Mount Hood and Mount Ranier (I think).
Anyway, I feel like I'm rambling. Maybe that's why I haven't blogged in to long!

This was a very different movie than I expected but it was still very interesting. I thought it would be more of an action film. It was a definitely a drama, not an action film! But very good.

Film 60 of 60: Men in Tights

No, I am not generally a Mel Brooks fan, but this film wasn't bad. I had never seen this entire movie, but watched it with Josh who is really enjoying his new Mel Brooks collection. It is very silly, irreverent and fun (with mostly boy humor). Not my favorite version...but fine.
My favorite Robin Hood versions:

	Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves A little dirty, but wonderful. A great, modern telling of Robin Hood.
	Robin Hood The TV show! I absolutely love this show!
	Robin Hood I grew up watching the Disney version of Robin hood and, of course, love it.
	The Adventures of Robin Hood The classic, black and white version.

Film 59 of 60: Silent Movie

I had planned to finish out my 60 films with modern musicals (Moulin Rouge and Rent) but ended up buying the Mel Brooks collection for Josh and watching some of the films with him. Silent movie is fun and silly while only slightly dirty. Bernadette Peters plays the love interest. She is one of my favorite actresses, and she does silent film beautifully.

Film 58 of 60: Evita

This is the first real musical I saw at the movie theatre. We were in Washington for All Northwest Honor Choir, junior year of high school. I was immediately in love with this film and tried to buy it the day it came out on VHS (yes, that long ago) but it wasn't available for under $100 in the small town I lived in. Now, I own it on DVD. I know every word to all but the soldiers song (not my favorite) and sing along whether out loud or in my head. If you enjoy musicals, check this one out.

Film 57 of 60: Into the Woods

I love this movie. Stephen Sondheim is the best. Bernadette Peters is wonderful as the witch. This movie combines several fairy tales into one story. Meet the baker and his wife, Cinderella, Jack and Red Riding Hood (along with a few cameos). They find that getting what you wish for may not always be the best thing for you, and people do not always live happily ever after.

I first saw this movie when I was a little girl. You know how there are those movies that mysteriously make you afraid of something? This one left me with a fear of throwing my arm across the bed. Not detaching it and throwing it, but sprawling it across. Watching it as an adult, the scene was a bit creepy but not life altering. :-}

Film 55 of 60: Hansel and Gretel

I love this version. This is the opera, but the children are played with actual children. I saw a video of this once with two women playing Hansel and Gretel. Cloris Leachman plays the witch, which is very funny given her recent notoriety.

Film 54 of 60: Rumpelstiltskin

This version finds Rumpelstiltskin as a creepy little man with quite a temper. He helps the miller's daughter turn straw into gold so that he can have her first child, he needs a cook! It is very fun to see Amy Irving so young and sweet.

Film 53 of 60: Snow White

I've owned this movie for over a year but hadn't watched it. It is actually very fun and quite on par with the rest of the fairy tale series. As with the rest of them, the singers are not fantastic, but they're interesting especially when they are big stars and don't sing quite so well.

This is such a great movie! Filled with twists and turns and very interesting! Lots of language though, so not for children! Highly recommended if you like an intelligent heist film.

Film 51 of 60: Constantine

This is the perfect role for Keanu Reeves; dark, doesn't entirely care about his fellow man and moody. Constantine was born with a gift/curse, he sees things that humans are not supposed to see. He uses this gift to send as many demons back to hell as he can during his short life. Why is he doing this? He's trying to earn his way into heaven after he committed suicide but came back to life (per the Catholic beliefs portrayed in this film). Is he damned to hell? Only time will tell.

Film 50 of 60: Nixon

Josh and I got Frost/Nixon from the library, only to find out that it was an old documentary, not the new movie...so we decided to watch this instead. It also allowed us to continue watching my Oliver Stone Collection. This was a very long film, but really interesting since I wasn't really around during the whole Watergate scandal. All films based on actual people must be taken with quite a grain of salt, but this was an interesting look into what may have motivated the former president.

Film 49 of 60: The Brothers Grimm

This is my favorite Heath Ledger Film. I am such a fan of Fairy Tales, (if you can't tell from my other movie posts)and love this fun re-telling of the Brothers Grimm. The brothers are not quite the story collectors, they are con-artists vanquishing witches and ghosts for a nominal fee. Of course, fairy tales start to come to life causing one brother to rethink his belief in fairy tales. Highly recommended, but not for kids, its too dark and a bit scary.

Film 48 of 60: License to Drive

Back in the day, I was a fan of the Coreys. They were fun and the "Cool Kids" of the early 90's. I have had this movie for a while but hadn't gotten around to actually watching it. Now, I know why. It is not my favorite of the Corey films.
My favorites? Dream a Little Dream (of course!) and The Lost Boys. Both of those are actually fantasy films. Interesting. So, if you are interested in the Coreys, watch one of those, and not this one!

The Order is a great movie dealing with Catholicism and the legend of the Sin Eater. It is especially interesting after watching Francine Rivers' Sin Eater, which is from the strictly Christian perspective. This version of the sin eater is of course darker, but also more interesting to me.
Heath Ledger is wonderful, as always and his films always remind me of our great loss.

Film 46 of 60: Fireproof

Fireproof was a very nice Christian film about marriage. A couple is on the brink of divorce when the man's father suggests that he do the Love Dare. What follows is the husband's journey to re-discover his love for his wife and find faith.
Not a spectacular movie, but nice for what it is.

Film 45 of 60: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

My favorite thing about this movie? They have Yetis! How cool is that?
Least favorite, Rachel Weisz did not want to reprise her role as Evelyn and they cast Maria Bello in her place. I love Rachel Weisz as Evelyn, but upon further reflection, Maria Bello does an excellent job in the role. I just miss the librarian!
Alex is all grown up, dropped out of college and on a dig in China, unbeknownst to his retired parents. Rick and Evelyn get sent on one final mission to China and discover him at Jonathan's club. Fortunately, Alex has made the find of a century, which dampens the horror of him dropping out. He has found the tomb of the Dragon Emperor and of course, this being a mummy movie, they must bring him to life.

Film 44 of 60: The Mummy Returns

The second of the Trilogy, this one finds Rick and Evelyn married and raising their son Alex who is about 8-10 in this film. Being a curious child, he finds a very pretty golden bracelet and tries it on...well, of course that leads to trouble when it won't come off and they find out that they have 7 days to find a lost oasis so they can take the bracelet off without killing Alex.
This is my favorite of the Mummy movies because it deals more with ancient Egypt (one of my favorite subjects) than the other 3 movies.

Film 43 of 60: The Mummy (1999?)

It's just a book. No harm ever came from reading a book.
The first of the Mummy trilogy finds our beloved Rick in prison and Evelyn working at the museum in Cairo. Evelyn's brother Jonathan finds a map to the City of the Dead. Well, that can never be good! One thing leads to another and the Mummy ends up awake and ready to raise his dead girlfriend from the dead and rule the Earth.
This is a great adventure, especially if you're looking for a light hearted fun adventure film. Don't take it too seriously.

Made for tv? Seems like a made for tv movie.
One of the main girls was in a few episodes of Supernatural. My favorite show.
Four friends go out looking for a mysterious lost city and, of course, they find it. Unfortunately for them, its also sacrifice time and they are looking mighty tasty.
Its not even on IMDB...anyway, its a lot like M. Night's The Village. They are trapped in a long ago time, only this one has much more fantasy involved.
Do I recommend it? Not really. There was nothing else on tv...

Film 41 of 60: High Society

Starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Celeste Holm. Can I just say that Celeste Holm is the biggest cutie? Oh my, I love her in this film. I haven't seen a lot of her movies, but I do enjoy her performances.
Anyway, this is a cute story of a marriage that failed and the re-marriage that should not be. The best part: Frank Sinatra & Bing Crosby sing a duet. Its great. Highly recommended!

Film 40 of 60: Terminator: Salvation

Christian Bale is the 3rd person (movie wise) to play John Connor. I must say that I was a bit affected (effected? I can never remember which) by his little rant on the set months and months ago. My favorite John Connor was played by Nick Stahl. Maybe not the most popular choice, but my favorite.
I do know (per EW) that Christian Bale was originally wanted for the part of Marcus Wright but ended up wanting the role of John Connor which makes great sense if there is another movie, he'll still look like John Connor.
It was a great movie and I'm glad that I saw it. Would I watch it again? For free. I won't be adding it to my collection, but I haven't bought any of the others either.

Film 39 of 60: Chronicles of Riddick Director's Cut

Every once in a while, I greatly prefer a director's cut. The director can add whatever he/she wants and sometimes it really builds the back story. This is one of those films.
This is the sequel to Pitch Black which finds our hero hiding out on an ice filled planet. When a group of bounty hunters tries to capture him, he is compelled into defending a helpless planet against a new breed of monster, the Necromongers.
A great sci-fi adventure film with lots of bum kicking.
This one is unrated.

Film 38 of 60: The Fast and the Furious

I have been working my way through my brother's movies and decided to watch this one again. It was fun to see Paul Walker and Vin Diesel in their big movie. While neither of them have had perfect careers since then...I do plan to eventually see the new Fast & Furious movie.
This one is fun and light, full of moral conflicts, fast cars and pretty people (as most movies of this kind tend to be).
Recommended for fans of Gone in 60 seconds who are looking for something a little lighter.

Film 37 of 60: Earthsea

A very fun light magical fantasy film about one wizards quest to control the evil within and outside of him. Starring a great cast including Shawn Ashmore of X-men fame (Iceman), Kristin Kreuk from Smallville and Chris Gauthier from a few episodes of Supernatural (one of my favorite shows), Eureka and most recently, Harper's Island, which I meant to watch but haven't gotten around to watching yet.
Just make sure you don't read the books before you watch this, or decide before hand that you will not compare it to the books.

Film 36 of 60: Day Watch

The sequel to Night Watch, Day Watch was even more interesting. All about the Chalk of Fate that allows he who holds the chalk to re-write their fate.
A great Russian film dealing with the battle between light and dark forces and choosing our path.

Film 35 of 60: The Thirteenth Floor

Something you may or may not know about me is that I don't like to read too much about a movie before I start it. As is very evident by this selection. I thought it was either a zombie or poltergeist film and it turned out to be a sci-fi computer program film. I did enjoy it and loved that I was constantly surprised by the plot. I'm also glad that I didn't know more!

Starring Edward Norton and Jessica Biel, this film is even more interesting on the 2nd viewing.
Since I already know what is going to happen, I enjoy watching how they get there. This is a very interesting movie, you should definitely watch it!

Film 33 of 60: Dead like Me: Life after Death

I loved this show but my favorite part was Mandy Patinkin who was able to go towards the light before this film. Sadly, the team discovers that he has moved on at the beginning of the movie and they meet the new boss. A...not nice man with plans of his own. I enjoyed catching up with the characters and was glad that I watched it but it was a little bit of a let down after watching the series. Really, its rare that a movie lives up to the series...

Why am I picking so many creepy movies lately? Though this one is creepy (Downtown LA gets bombed with dirty bombs) it was very interesting and made me want to go out and buy some plastic so I can close up my own house in case of emergency.
I love Rory Cochrane and it was nice to see him again.

I am not typically a fan of Keira Knightly but I must say that I really enjoyed her performance as Domino, a woman who has some aggressive tendencies leaves her Beverly Hills life and becomes a bounty hunter. My favorite part? That Ian Ziering and Brian Austin Green guest star as themselves.
Yes, it is wildly innappropriate, but a very fun movie. For people who enjoy seeing other people get their bums kicked.
It is very loosely based on Domino Harvey's actual adventures.

Film 30 of 60: Ghost Town

While I thought this was going to either be a romantic comedy or just another blah comedy, I was pleasantly surprised by Ghost Town.
Starring Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear and Téa Leoni, this turned out to be a very nice story about finding your place in the world and interacting not only with the dead, but with the living.
Rated PG-13.

Film 29 of 60: Night Watch

Who would have expected this Russian film to be quite so mesmerizing? I certainly did not. While I will admit that I am an avid fan of the Supernatural (also the name of my favorite TV show) I did not expect this film to be so enthralling.

A definite must for fans of Supernatural, heroes, dark supernatural films, vampires and foreign horror films (though it is not quite horror).
Rated R or Unrated. I can't wait to watch Day Watch but will wait until I have more time to focus.

Carmela Marner plays the princess in this and one of the sisters in Beauty and the Beast. I thought she looked familiar!

Film 27 of 60: Beauty and the Beast (1987)

Part of the Fairy Tale musical series put out in the late 80's.
This one stars Rebecca De Mornay as Beauty and John Savage as the Beast.
While the music is not perfect, it is fun.
Beauty has a large family instead of being an only child, and almost finds relief in leaving the family that is largely dependent on her for everything to find solace in the Beast's castle.

This is my favorite Gidget. Well my favorite actress of the 3 that play Gidget in the movies.
Deborah Walley plays Gidget with the same Jeff. Also fun: Michael Callan plays Eddie Horner. That is very fun because I had the biggest crush on him in Cat Ballou!

Anyway, also fun, Vicki Trickett plays Abby and she looks almost exactly like Jaimie Alexander who lays Jessi on Kyle XY.

Film 25 of 60: Gidget Goes to Rome

I watched them out of order! Oh well.
This one stars Cindy Carrol as Gidget and James Darren as Moondoggie (again). This Gidget is also fine, but not my favorite. It is fun to see her in Rome, a city that I love!
It would have made more sense if I watched them in order, but it was still fun.

Such a fun, laugh out loud film.
Fun to see the guy from Joan of Arcadia (Joan's would be boyfriend), Veronica Mars herself as well as a continuous cast of cameos.

Why I quit my new job...

I started at ACS almost a month ago. I had read some negative reviews but thought that I would give it a shot since other jobs were not exactly banging down my door.
It was fine for the first 2 weeks since we were just in a classroom training environment, but then we hit the phones. I had not realized what a nervous person I was! I would tense between calls, during calls, and feel literally sick to my stomach.
I decided that the job was too far away, too unreliable and too hard on my body and emailed my letter of resignation last night. Josh actually wrote it and pressed send for me. :-}
So now, I am being a housewife for a while until I find a new job, closer to home and more to my liking. Josh is working at Home Depot for now and we'll be fine until I find something else.

Very good movie! Too fun and featuring a cast of some very fun people.
Some of my favorites:
Zachary Quinto from Heroes, which I plan to start watching as soon as they are done with the series.
Simon Pegg (as Scotty) from Hot Fuzz.
Zoë Saldana from Pirates of the Caribbean (as Uhura)
and of course: Jennifer Morrison from House as Kirk's mother.
And what is up with Winona Ryder as Spock's mother? She had way too much makeup.

Starring Jodie Foster, Helen Hayes and David Niven. It is a movie full of reminiscing for me. I watched it often as a child. The movie is 2 years older than I am.
Jodie Foster starts as Casey, a young girl entangled in a treasure hunt. She pretends to be the long lost granddaughter of Lady St. Edmund's in order to get closer to the clues, but ends up getting closer to the family.
A very nice 70's Disney film, recommended for the whole family.

Movie 2 of 60: Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang

Starring Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. Lots of language, bit of nudity, definitely for adults.
Robert Downey Jr is one of my favorite actors and I do enjoy him in this film. He not only stars, he serves as narrator.
He starts out as a two bit thief who accidentally stumbles into an audition while running from the cops. He gets "discovered" and one thing leads to another, he ends up investigating a murder!

Pretty in Pink:
Molly Ringwald & Jon Cryer.
I thought i had seen it before but don't think that I actually have (not that I remember anyway).
Typical separation of rich kids and poor kids. Ducky is madly in love with his best friend who dates a rich guy, ignoring Ducky's protests.
She gets asked to Prom by Blaine (oh my word, that's really his name) and he blows her off, like a nice rich kid. Its cute and a classic 80's movie.

Moving! Day 5

Today is Josh's birthday! Lucky him, he got to wake up at 5:30 to get ready to hit the road!
While our hotel breakfast was sadly lacking (ummmm, I'm not really supposed to eat cereal and was avoiding sugar so I ate a couple of plain toaster waffles, at least they had coffee!), my parents suprised him with a very yummy chocolate cake from Safeway! One of the few places in Laramie. Not even a mall. In a college town. So sad.
We hit the road by 7 and were off! We drove through the rest of Wyoming, Utah and some of Idaho on I-80 and I-84. We saw gorgeous mountains! I have missed the mountains! And a Chevron station....just like home. In Alaska.
With all the mountain driving, today was our longest driving day, we didn't get to the hotel until around 7pm. We ate dinner and rested our tired muscles in the lovely hot tub. We also met a very nice couple who were on their way to Colorado and my parents had a nice visit.
Anyway, its late (sort of) and I'm off to bed!

Day 4 began in...Omaha, Nebraska. Again, bright and early. We drove through Nebraska (I had no idea it was such a wide state, no offense meant) and into Wyoming.
We arrived in Laramie, Wyoming in the late afternoon. It was lovely to have time to relax before going to bed!
Josh and I went to the pool and then went with Dad to fill up the cars before going to bed. Josh was craving ice cream (as normal) so we got frosty's from Wendy's. Mmmm.
Nebraska was mostly cows. Lots of cows. I like cows. :-}

Moving! Day 3

Today, we woke up bright and early and had a very lovely breakfast before heading out:Group photo before heading out: We stopped for lunch in Illinois:
Josh and I decided to get refrigerator magnets for every state we drive through and got them all at this gas station!
Iowa has the neatest Wind Mills! I tried to take a picture while driving but it didn't turn out too well...
We drove through Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and just into Nebraska to our hotel.
Now we are here and very tired and are going to eat dinner and go to bed!

Day 2: Packing and Cleaning

On day 2 we finished packing everything up and cleaning. Oh my goodness, is the truck full! And the cars...

After everything was packed and cleaned (not a short process, believe me), we headed out to the Best Western and dinner with Jodi. Hi Jodi!
After dinner, we went to bed and slept and slept until about 5:45.

Moving! Day 1

Day 1:
We picked up the truck! A very large truck.
Then, we loaded the truck. Shocking, I know.
Aunt Bernadette helped in the morning and Josh's parent's helped in the afternoon!

We worked from about 8am to 8pm and were exhausted! While Josh and I went to bed at nine, The parents and Wes ended up cleaning until at least 11....

Today is my last day at the library.
Tomorrow, our adventure begins.
We pick up the Uhaul in the morning.
Packing and Cleaning Wednesday and Thursday.
Hit the Road Friday morning!
Our travels will take us through
Chicago
Iowa
Nebraska
Wyoming
Oregon
to Washington.
