National Treasure

It was great!
Starring Nicholas Cage and other people. Its been compared to the Divinci Code but the only thing that is the same is that its a kind of treasure hunt where they have to follow clues to the next location.
I loved it. Its fun and interesting (they talk about the masons and Knights Templar which I am interested in and have read several books about). I have a personal interest in the story since I am very into conspiracy theories and lost treasures, the Holy Grail and things of that nature. Maybe not a healthy interest, but fun.
One thing that I liked is that the good and bad characters are clearly defined. The bad guy is clearly the bad guy almost from the beginning.
While they do steal the declaration of independence, they state that it is wrong and they should not steal the declaration.
I would recommend it to: Indiana Jones Fans, Adventure Fans, Nicholas Cage Fans, not for hard core action fans (its fun not overly violent, no one even dies) families with children old enough to understand the fun of treasure hunting and difference between good and bad.

Saved

A very odd film full of not really radical Christians but people who seem to be a bit confused. The main character decides that having sex with her gay boyfriend is the only way to help him over come his sexual tendency, she gets pregnant and after this causes her to doubt her faith, she is cast out from among the jewels, her group of friends and singing group.
The only people in her school that have redeeming value are of course those that the mainstream Christians have rejected.
I wouldn't recommend the movie, but it does make us think about our motives.
The most popular girl (holiest and all that stuff) does the right thing (sometimes, or at least what she thinks is right) but has horrible motives and is really quite a bad word. Not a nice girl at all.
Its depicts Christians (at least most) as self-centered Jesus freaks (God and Christ are portrayed more as rock stars or celebrities than anything else) and not people that I would ever want to be around.
maybe the point of the movie is to make the Christian community take a closer look at how we are treating the world. Or something.
Recommended for: parents of Christian teens, those involved in youth ministry.

Gone in 60 Seconds

Nicholas Cage and Giovanni Ribisi star in this fast paced (at times) car heist film.
Nicholas Cage must steal 50 cars in one night to bail out his little brother (played by Giovanni). The film is packed with fast cars, police chases, odd characters and fun.
Recommended for: car chase lovers, action fans, and fans of Nicholas Cage.

Into the Woods

A wonderfully fanciful journey into the land of fairy tales. Meet Little Red Riding Hood, the Witch (wonderfully done by Bernadette Peters), Rapunzel, Jack (who climbed the bean stalk) Prince charming, Cinderella and more as they join together to make a wish come true and save their land from the giant.
My favorite line is:
"You're not good, you're not bad, you're just nice."
There is such a difference between being good and nice. Bernadette Peters is one of my favorite Broadway actresses and you feel her emotion as she pleads with her daughter to not leave her. They cast finds out the hard way that while wishes are good in thought, you do not always get what you expect and sometimes the price tag is higher than you want to pay.
Recommended for: Musical fans, comedy fans, people who are willing to enter into the world of fairy tales for a brief visit.

Thoroughly Modern Millie

Millie is determined to be modern. She bobs her hair, buys new clothes and is determined to marry her boss. All she has to do is find an eligible one!
Join Millie as she finds an eligible boss, falls in love with a paperclip salesman and saves Miss Dorothy from the white slave traders.
A wonderfully strange and fun musical starring Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore. I usually listen to it while I clean. Its Strange songs include: Do it again and the Tapioca.
Also starring Carol Channing as an eccentric widow determined to have a good time.

The Mummy Returns

The Mummy Returns joins Rick and Evelyn 10 years (or so) later. Their son, Alex (a combination of brains and tendency to cause minor disasters) is kidnapped by Imhotep and taken deep into the long hidden oasis. Evelyn discovers that she magically has advanced fighting skills (turns out she is the re-incarnation of the original Pharoah's daughter, original as in from the first film, not as in the first pharaoh) and her abilities spark back to life as she begins to dream of her previous life.
The scorpion king also makes a brief appearance before his film debut.
I don't particularly like the reincarnation bit, but I do love the ancient fighting scenes and the glimpses back to their life in ancient Egypt. There are also scantily clad ladies and of course there's a bit of treachery.
Highly recommended for: those who love Egypt, Indiana Jones Fans, and fans of a good romance/adventure film.

The Mummy

The Mummy finds Evelyn (daughter of an Egyptology and his beautiful Egyptian bride) working away in the library of the Cairo museum. She is soon interrupted by her rascally brother (who seems to have no career of his own besides gambling and pick-pocketing) who has found a treasure box with an unexpected bonus.
Her quest leads her to seek out the previous owner of the box (Rick, played by Brendan Frasier)and what follows is not only a trip into the Egyptian dessert, but back in time.
Highly recommended for: those who love Egypt, Indiana Jones Fans, and fans of a good romance/adventure film.

Pride and Prejudice (A & E Version)

This is one of my all time favorite films.
Elizabeth Bennet comes from a family with five daughters, while this is not a travesty in this age, during this period, a family with no sons was pitied indeed.
When Elizabeth first meets the pretentious Mr. Darcy, he is seemingly cold and thinks himself far above the country folk he has been forced to interact with.
He thinks of Elizabeth's family as rude and unsophisticated (which her mother and sister display quite frequently throughout the film causing my finget to often hit fast forward to the best scenes between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy).
They both hurt the other and try to ignore their feeligns, but of course they fall in love and overcome his pride and her prejudice.

Chronicles of Riddick

Okay, I loved this movie. Yes, parts were unbelievable or a bit dumb, but on the whole, an excellent no-brainer film.
I love movies where the good (or kind-of-good, at least better than the other guy) wins or at least tries really hard.
Its very science fictiony combined with fantasy (we have the elementals) and that can be fun.
I recommend this to: anyone looking for a kind of dumb but entertaining movie that they are willing to overlook some basic oddities and just enjoy the show. Adults of course since its rated R. (the only really bad part was Thandie Newton and her husband, and yes, they are married, but no, I don't want to watch that!)
